Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a medical term used to describe a popular type of cosmetic nasal surgery that addresses aesthetic, and sometimes functional, concerns in the nose. Patients and surgeons more commonly refer to the procedure as a “nose job”.

What To Expect From Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty surgery will vary slightly for everyone.

Typically, it is recommended for patients who have struggled with self-image because of the proportions of their faces for most of their life. You will be able to discuss any questions or concerns with Dr. Troiano during your initial consultation. Together, you will be able to talk about your beauty goals, what type of rhinoplasty is best for you, and how we can help you achieve the best rhinoplasty West Palm Beach has to offer.

Open Rhinoplasty

There are different ways a plastic surgeon may approach facial surgery such as rhinoplasty, and they may not always be the same. The technique used may depend on a surgeon’s training or personal expertise, as well as what the patient needs and what is the best approach to help them achieve their aesthetic goals.

Open rhinoplasty is usually reserved for patients who want more extensive adjustments. It requires your surgeon to make an incision along the columella, which allows them to pull back the skin of the nose in order to perform their corrections.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty is performed using the same two incisions made in the nostrils, like an open rhinoplasty, without the third incision that pulls back the skin. A closed rhinoplasty, as the name suggests, is performed through the nostrils and is recommended for patients who want certain corrections, often that is less extensive. This procedure also helps to reduce the risk of any visible scarring although the scar along the columella heals incredibly well and becomes nearly invisible over time.

Rhinoplasty Cost

The cost of a rhinoplasty procedure will depend on various factors, including the extent of treatment desired, if you have had previous procedures performed on the nose, as well as the costs of your surgical treatment and supplemental follow-ups.

Using expert techniques and state-of-the-art medical technology, Dr. Troiano offers patients the ability to alter or enhance the shape, size, structure, and overall details of the nose, including nostril size, width and shape of the tip of the nose, any bumps or imperfections in the bridge, and more. Most importantly, Dr. Troiano maintains or strengthens the airway of the nose to achieve an open airway for patients to breathe.

For many patients, nasal surgery can help to balance the features and achieve symmetry among your face. Our Palm Beach rhinoplasty patients who opt to get the procedure at a young age often do so because they felt bullied or singled out because of noticeable traits about their nose.

Ultimately, patients should have realistic expectations and understand the risks of cosmetic surgery, but those who undergo it often feel it was an excellent decision.

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that can help to restructure bones, cartilage, soft tissue, and skin of the nose. The results are meant to be permanent. It takes an entire year for the nose, or for any part of the body, to completely heal from any kind of surgery.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, there will be changes that occur in the nose over the course of the year that need to be addressed to obtain an optimal outcome. We have also come to appreciate that the nose changes significantly over our lifetime, whether or not surgery has been performed. This is one of the reasons why revision rhinoplasty is performed and it is a very common procedure. Some patients may opt to have follow-up surgery down the line if they wish to further correct or refine their nose.

Rhinoplasty can be performed on adults of almost any age, so long as they are in good general health and cleared for facial enhancement surgery. It is sometimes performed on teenagers, generally around 17 for girls and 18 for boys, to help them achieve a more harmonious facial profile.

Typically, plastic surgery is considered an elective procedure, and generally not covered by insurance. However, rhinoplasty can sometimes be required for patients who are looking to correct a structural or functional issue, such as a deviated septum or issues with sleep apnea. In these cases, you may be able to have a portion of your procedure covered by your insurance policy. Dr. Troiano does not currently accept insurance but will provide all of the documentation and codes needed to be reimbursed by the insurance company.

Nasal surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia, so patients are comfortably sleeping during the process and don’t feel any pain. It is not uncommon, however, to feel some discomfort, swelling, and pressure after the procedure during your recovery process. Discomfort is managed with ice and pain medications. The patient should expect some bleeding from the nose for the first few days after surgery. It is very common to have black and blue eyes as well. This bruising generally resolves in 2-3 weeks.
