Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are often used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. By applying a chemical solution to the skin, the skin begins to peel off and exfoliate. It becomes smoother, less wrinkled, and more elastic as the skin rejuvenates.

A chemical peel is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that will give your skin a brighter and more even-toned complexion. Though chemical peels are primarily for the face, they can be applied to the neck, chest, and hands as well.

FAQs

A chemical peel removes the top layers of skin by means of a chemical solution. The new skin is smoother when it grows back. To get the desired results from light or medium peel, you may need to undergo the procedure more than once.

Our experts use acidic solutions on the skin to remove the damaged top layers, speed up cell turnover and boost collagen growth. Chemical peels stimulate new skin growth to improve skin texture and appearance.

All skin types and skin tones may be able to benefit from chemical peels. Chemical peels, however, work best on lighter skin tones with thinner layers.

Using chemical peels refreshes the entire face, provides a natural glow, smooths the skin, and eliminates blemishes.

This is a game-changer for people with acne, uneven skin tone, or rough skin. It is the most effective facial rejuvenation treatment available. We usually recommend a minimum of three treatments to achieve optimal results.

Depending on the degree of chemical peel, recovery time will vary. Your skin may feel tight or sunburnt following a chemical peel procedure. Proper skin care can help speed up the healing process and enhance results.

FAQs

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment that we used to treat many skin concerns. It’s going to help with skin texture, pigmentation, fine lines, acne, scars, and active acne. It’s going to peel the outer layers of skin to reveal fresh baby skin underneath.

What to expect during my chemical peel treatment?

When the patient comes in for their treatment, we prefer that you come in without any makeup on, that’s ideal. If not, we’ll go ahead and wash your face when you get here. First, we will clean the skin with alcohol acetone, then we apply the peel, and we do several passes based on what we’re trying to achieve. You’ll feel a mild sensation of a little bit of burning but it’s pretty comfortable. Depending on which peel we do, it may be one that we have you wash off after a certain amount of hours or you just leave it on all the way until nighttime.

Are chemical peels safe for all skin types?

The two peels that we offer here are safe for all skin types. Whether we have really fair skin like myself or somebody has a really dark complexion, they’re going to be completely safe. They are applied in a little bit of a different way depending on our skin tone but they’re definitely safe for all skin types.

How long does it take to see results?

About a week after treatment is when you’re going to start seeing your results. Full results aren’t until about a month afterward because, underneath the surface, there’s still cellular turnover taking place that is helping us achieve different goals. This includes helping with our texture, pigmentation, or scarring. About a month after your last treatment is when you’ll see your final result.

What chemical peels do we use, and why?

There are a lot of different peels on the market, so how do you know which peel to choose from? Well, we chose our two favorite peels the Pro Clinical Peel and the Perfect Derma Peel. What makes these two different from every other peel on the market is that they’re the only ones that contain glutathione. Glutathione is a master antioxidant and it is going to help with skin lightening. These are the only two peels that offer that ingredient which is why we chose to carry these.

Are chemical peels safe?

Chemical peels are very safe when done in the right hands with a very experienced provider. So it’s going to help us accomplish our skin care goals without any issues. There are certain things we need to pay attention to so that we don’t create scarring or issues with pigmentation. If the practitioner has a lot of experience, it is very safe.

When should you NOT do a chemical peel?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding or currently taking Accutane or have taken Accutane in the past six months, then you cannot get a chemical peel. Also important to have realistic expectations and this will be discussed during your consultation. Even if we know that you’re going to see a nice improvement, if it doesn’t sound like it’s going to achieve the goals you’re looking to achieve, then we will tell you not to do it.

What is the post treatment care after a chemical peel?

We’ll give you very specific instructions to follow after your chemical peel. It will vary a little bit based on which peel we decide to do. If we do the deeper peel we’re going to give you a couple of wipes that you’re going to apply the evening after the treatment as well as the next morning. If you do the lighter peel, that will not be required. With the deeper peel, we will give you a specific sunblock that we want you to use as well as a moisturizer. Now, it’s super important after the peel to avoid the sun. You’ll be more photosensitive which means that your skin is more sensitive to sun exposure. As we peel off the old skin, underneath we’ll have this baby fresh skin that’s going to be more sensitive to the sun. So we recommend a mineral sunscreen with a high SPF as well as wearing a hat if you’re going to be outdoors. This is for at least two weeks. You also want to make sure that you don’t get really hot when the skin is starting to peel off, what we don’t want to do is have a lot of heat underneath the skin. So we wouldn’t want you to go to the gym or go into a sauna until at least four or five days after the peel.

When can I resume wearing makeup after a chemical peel?

When we apply the peel, that day your skin is going to look really red but you can apply mineral makeup over the skin. So if you do the peel on Monday, Monday afternoon, you can go back to work, you can go out to dinner and you’ll be able to wear makeup and you can hide the redness. Now, starting the second day is when you want to start avoiding makeup and then you’re going to continue avoiding makeup until at least day six or seven. So for instance, if you do a peel on Monday, you can wear makeup Monday. Tuesday through Friday you’re going to be makeup free without putting anything on your skin except for mineral sunscreen and then typically Saturday or Sunday is when you can resume applying makeup.
