With thousands of hair restoration procedures performed, Dr. Max is an experienced surgeon and progressive thinker who is able to bring this new, effective technology to his clients. Dr. Max will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan, based on your unique cosmetic goals and give you the results you’ve been dreaming of!

With the many advances in hair restoration methods, the Manual FUE technique continues to be one of the most practiced methods in the industry. This is due to the precision this method grants the surgeon, assuming the surgeon is skilled. Unlike strip procedure(FUT), where surgeon involvement is minimal and typically lasts 30-45 minutes, a FUE procedure allows surgery to be 100% involved during the entire procedure. At Maxim Medical, only Dr. Max performs the entire procedure of harvesting, as well as implantation.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is one of the techniques for obtaining donor hair for hair transplantation. FUE is a technique that requires more skill on the part of the physician hair restoration specialist and more cost on the part of the patient than the technique of strip harvesting (removal of a strip of scalp tissue bearing hundreds of follicular units). It is also a technique with potential benefit for the patient in less donor-site scarring, although small polka-dot scars may appear at sites of follicular unit extraction.

FUE removes one follicular unit (FU) at a time, targeting the FUs that appear most likely to thrive and produce hair in a transplant recipient site.

Considering the nature of this procedure, there are many equipment manufacturers who sell different types of technologies to be able to harvest the follicular units with more precision and ease.

Here at Maxim Medical, Dr. Max uses a Neograft® device by Trivellini Tech® called the MAMBA device for our FUE procedures. Neograft® allows simultaneous excision and harvesting helping with instantaneous quality control. It is especially useful with patients with curly hair or African-Americans.  The grafts are collected in small irrigated containers. The process of Neograft® harvesting is straightforward and fast.

The Mamba device is compact and lightweight, but has a host of features that gives you unprecedented surgical freedom. The MAMBA features individually adjustable rotation functions, oscillation, mechanical vibration, and vacuum, which provides unique and unmatched graft extraction quality.

Though there have been many advancements in modern-day hair transplant methods, there have usually been drawbacks with these procedures for the African American & Caribbean demographic.

For those who are familiar with the Strip Surgery method, there is usually a left-over scar in the back of the scalp area. Most of those who find the scar unsightly will try to hide it by growing out their hair. However, most male African American & Caribbean hairstyles tend to be characterized by short, closely cropped hair which can present an issue if they are trying to hide a scar on their scalp.

Moreover, there is always the increased risk of hypertrophic scarring that has to be taken into account. For patients of African or Caribbean descent, the possibility of developing a hypertrophic or keloid scar is much greater than other backgrounds. Genetically, they are seven times more likely to form keloid scars on the head and neck.

For these reasons, Follicular Unit Extraction has become the preferred method of hair transplant. Though this can still be a difficult procedure due to the natural curl of African American & Caribbean ethnic hair. Furthermore, this type of hair generally has less follicular density per square centimeter than other races. On average, the density for this type of hair is 50–70 follicular units per square centimeter. Yet, because the curliness of the hair overwhelms the low density, it gives the hair a full and thick appearance.

In general, the African American & Caribbean scalp tends to produce high levels of sebum. However, due to the curled nature of the hair, the sebum rarely spreads evenly throughout the hair strands, making them dry and brittle. Thus, this hair tends to be more fragile and breakable.

When consulting an African American or Caribbean patient, there is also the need to go over any disease processes that may hinder or even nullify the success of the hair transplant. With all factors considered, it has been shown that the FUE technique is the most preferred hair transplant method for both men and women of this background.

It’s generally believed that a hair transplant can only occur if the patient’s head is completely shaven. While this is a standard prep method for surgery, it is not necessary. We are now able to perform a hair transplant without having to shave the entire head area. Only the area in which the hairs are being extracted will be trimmed short. With this approach, there are no signs of a procedure having been done.

While the No-Shave FUE method is not very common to see in most clinics, we do offer it here at Maxim Medical. Most clinics shy away from this approach since it requires a highly-trained team to properly work around the existing hairs. This can also result in a longer procedure, in terms of time. Moreover, it is important to note that the No-Shave FUE Hair Transplant cannot be done by the Artas IX® Robotic Hair Restoration System as it requires the full head to be shaven. Instead, we perform this procedure with Trivellini Tech’s® Mamba device.

The No-Shave FUE technique is usually called a Celebrity Hair Transplant because celebrities would not want to make it apparent that they had received a hair transplant. Don’t be fooled by its name though! Any patient who does not want to shave their entire head can receive this FUE procedure.

Prior to the Manual FUE technique, the FUT method(also called Strip Surgery) was the standard for hair restoration procedures. The downfall of the FUT approach was that it would leave an unsightly linear scar on the back of the scalp.

Here at Maxim Medical, we strive to make sure all of our patients will be satisfied with their results. Thus, for our patients who had previously had a Strip Surgery done, if they so choose, we will use some of the grafts that we obtain to cover the previous FUT scar.

Moreover, we don’t just limit our scar repair services to past FUT-related procedures. We truly want our patients to feel the best they can. Thus, we also extend our treatment of Postsurgical Scalp Scar Deformity regardless of what was the cause of the scar. This can range from trauma, past facelift surgeries, etc. If you have any questions regarding your specific situation, feel free to contact us at 954-945-2909.

Though this route can present some challenges, as the scar tissue in the scar area may be less vascular than the surrounding tissue, we can offer services that will mitigate any trouble. With using treatments like PRP and our Hyperbaric Chamber, we can see improvement with graft survival.

Typically, Dr. Max will use a punch to create round incisions in the scar to help reduce any surface tension that may be exerted by the scar tissue on the graft. Dr. Max also suggests having a PRP procedure prior to performing a FUE Scar Repair. We have seen very promising, great results with this approach to repairing FUT strip scars.

Maxim Medical is committed to all your hair restoration needs, thus we don’t limit ourselves to just treating hair loss of the scalp. Our clinic also offers facial hair restoration procedures. Whether you may be experiencing facial hair loss from disease, aging, or just natural reasons, Maxim Medical is your solution. We are more than happy to work with you and create the best outcome possible to restore your desired beard, mustache, sideburns, or eyebrows. It’s no secret that the right beard or right shape of eyebrows can make or break your look. During our consultation with you, we will go over all details of the procedure, from determining the best route and style for you, to answering any questions you may have regarding the procedure. We hold our patients’ best interests and desired outcomes at utmost importance. When it comes to your image, why put it at risk. We at Maxim Medical are here for you.

Essentially, the procedure is exactly what it sounds like. Similar to a hair transplant for hair loss of the scalp, we take hair from another part of the body (usually the base of your scalp at the back, or under your chin in this case) and transplant it to your face. If you’d like to learn more or schedule a free consultation, feel free to give us a call at 954-945-2909. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is another popular solution for hair loss. It is a non-invasive treatment that creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles, restoring the appearance of hair on a shaved scalp by creating the illusion of a thicker head of hair. The goal of SMP isn’t to create hair-like lines that are perfectly lined like microblading eyebrows, but instead to use tiny, layered dots in different hues of black to replicate the look of a shadow on your scalp. This style, referred to as pointillism, is done to create natural-looking depth and definition. It is also a great option when all you want is to add density to your hair.

The Direct Graft Implantation technique is the final stage of FUE Hair Implantation technique, with the main modification being how the hair is implanted. During traditional  FUE hair transplant, surgeon creates incisions throughout the entire scalp and allocates the follicular components into these incisions. In the DGI Hair Transplant technique, this method calls for a patented tool to implant each graft, one by one, right into the scalp without making any slits. There are multiple advantages of direct graft implantation versus traditional methods. Aside from the use of this tool, an automatic hair transplant system can also be used – a robotic system that calculates the depth and angle required for every hair follicle. Here at Maxim Medical, we take pride in knowing we offer the latest technology in hair loss solutions, the Artas iX Robotic Hair Restoration System.

Advantages of DGI:

  • No injury to grafts during implantation since the graft is fully protected inside the implanter
  • (picture of insertion with forceps vs DGI)
  • Lesser risk of traumatizing grafts during loading
  • Faster overall procedure
  • Faster healing
  • More natural results
  • Potentially faster hair regrowth
  • The entire implantation is done personally by Dr. Chumak

The most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss. Affecting about 70% of men and 40% of women, this type of hair loss can be treated by Regenera Activa® by Rigenera© Technology.

Regenera Activa® is one of the newest revolutionary methods to treat male and female type hair loss. It is based on introduction of hair micrografts into the areas of hair loss. A three-step procedure that takes approximately 60 min with results may be visible as early as 3 months. It uses your own hair that contains cells to activate the follicles around the balding area. Thus, it uses your own body’s ability to treat  hair loss.

This is accomplished by obtaining autologous micrografts (patient’s own tissue). In a single session, the patient is a donor and a recipient of the autologous micrografts. Thus, allowing the recipient zone to benefit from the regenerative activity of progenitor cells and growth factors (proteins that promote growth & healing)

Using the Regenera®, a high concentration of cells is calibrated through a mechanical process and added filtrate to increase their elements and concentration.

In most cases, hair loss is a result of miniaturized hair follicles and a shortened hair growth cycle. In a process called miniaturization, DHT shrinks hair follicles causing strands to reproduce at a slower rate by either shortening the growing phase or lengthening the resting phase. As androgenetic alopecia progresses and DHT continues to adversely affect the follicles, hairs become thinner, more fragile and often lighter in color with each subsequent life cycle. Eventually, the follicles shut down and will no longer produce hair.

One of the causes of hair loss is excess levels of DHT, a modified form of the sex hormone testosterone. Typically, high DHT levels limit the blood supply to hair follicles. DHT blocker targets and blocks DHT formation.

Maxim Medical offers medications to help treat hair loss. Depending on your hair loss, Dr. Max can prescribe you a DHT blocker as an oral or topical medication to treat hair loss.

What to Expect

FAQs

The cost depends on your particular situation and the amount of hair loss you are experiencing. It may range between $5000 to $18000. During your consultation, we will estimate the number of grafts you may need, which determines the cost.

We do have several options for our patients or potential customers to contact us. You can be seen in-person in the clinic and we can go over the details regarding the procedure.

We have two options for a typical hair consultation. One is with our hair consultant. The other one is with me and is a more thorough consultation.

You also have the option to do a virtual consultation if it is not convenient for you to get to our clinic. In this case scenario, you would submit your questionnaire including your photographs. All your submitted information is 100% Confidential.

We will then contact you via Skype or other means of virtual meeting at a time that is convenient for you.

No. First, a local anesthetic is applied, which may cause slight discomfort. Once the scalp is numbed, the procedure itself is not painful.

It is much shorter than with all other existing hair restoration surgeries: usually anywhere from 1-3 days. Because there are no surgical cuts or stitches involved, the most people can expect is some mild swelling and discomfort. Most are able to resume their regular activities within 48 hours.

The old-fashioned “hair plugs” are what’s known as a strip surgery — when a strip of hair is removed from the back of the head and transplanted onto areas that are experiencing baldness. As a result, these areas can appear unnatural. ARTAS® is the robotic option and NeoGraft® is the manual option for the follicular unit transplant (FUT) surgery – individual follicles are transplanted. This allows us to preserve natural hair groupings and results in natural-looking hair.

Yes, it is recommended that you trim your hair short in the donor area in order for Dr. Max or the ARTAS® Robot to successfully harvest the follicular units. We also offer a “no shave” option when appropriate.

Absolutely not. Today’s technology allows for the transplantation of individual follicular units. We also ensure that the direction of follicular hair growth in the transplanted area is the natural direction of your hair. What’s more, there are virtually no scars. Unlike older surgeries that left clients with linear scars in the back of the head, the procedures we perform may leave minimal, barely visible scars in the donor area. You can wear your hair any way you want: any length, any style.

It depends on the amount of hair restoration that is required for your particular case. We will give you a graft estimate during your consultation. Generally, the procedure takes 4-8 hours. As you sit back and relax, Dr. Max will oversee the process, and our staff are available to make you as comfortable as possible.
