What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
It is one of the most effective ways to achieve younger looking skin without surgery. Laser skin resurfacing uses fractional microbeams to emit columns of laser energy into the skin. The body’s natural healing process then creates new, healthy tissue while increasing collagen production resulting in younger-looking skin.
It is the best treatment to cater to various needs all at once to diminish brown spots, acne scars, pore size, fine lines, and wrinkles.Â
How To Prepare For Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Preparing for this laser treatment requires some lifestyle changes. Two weeks prior, you want to stop:
–Medications and blood thinners: ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin EÂ
–Exfoliating products: tretinoin and topical retinoids
–Unprotected sun exposure: the use of tanning beds or out in the sun without daily use of SPF 45+. Those being treated should avoid indoor and outdoor tanning 4 weeks prior.
–Cold Sores and Blisters: If you are prone to cold sores and blisters, our doctor will prescribe antibiotics before your procedure to prevent any post-op.
–Smoking: Stop smoking before and after for 2 weeks
What To Expect During and After Procedure
What nobody really talks about until the procedure is the pain level. We are here to tell you that it is definitely not painless. Depending on one’s pain tolerance, laser resurfacing will cause mild to moderate discomfort. It is, however, short lived and well worth it since this procedure is one of the most consistent ways to improve your skin without undergoing expensive facelifts.Â
To minimize discomfort, a lidocaine numbing cream will be applied prior to starting the treatment.Â
After
Since everyone has a different skin type and sensitivity, recovery times will vary. For some, it could be barely noticeable two days after the treatment. For others, it could take up to two weeks to fully recover. That is why it is very important to have a proper skin analysis with a specialist before scheduling this treatment.Â
In general, most people will experience a mild sunburn-like sensation for 2-3 days after the laser treatment. Mild swelling and/or redness may also be present. It is strongly recommended to apply wrapped ice or gel packs to the treatment area for 10-15 minutes every hour for the next four hours, as needed. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
Until redness has been resolved, it is recommended to avoid the following:
– Applying cosmetics to treated areas.
-Pools, Hot tubs, Jacuzzis, and saunas.
-Activities that cause excessive perspiration or any activity that may raise body temperature.
– Sun exposure and tanning in treated areas
-Aggressive scrubbing and use of exfoliants on the treated area.Â
What Is The Cost Of This Cosmetic Procedure?
The investment of this treatment varies depending on the area and sessions needed. The range for a single treatment goes from $350-$750.
For the most part, treating smaller areas of the body will be less costly. Larger areas tend to be more costly. With that being said, the size of the area being treated is not the only deciding factor when it comes to pricing. The severity of the problem and the overall complexity of the case will impact final costs. It is important to have a consultation with a laser specialist to get a precise treatment plan.Â
